What is a life of worship?
A life of worship is more than praising God with our mouth, lifting our hands, or bowing before him. It is all those things, yet much more than that! Living a life of worship means to seek Him with all that is within us, and to pursue Him with our entire being.
It says in Jeremiah 29:13, “And you shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all of your heart.”
We really need to pursue God until he becomes the air that we breathe and the reason that we live. We need to become like psalms 63:1 which says, “O God thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is”
What does it look like to thirst after God?
Thirsting after God looks the same as being hungry for food. Imagine going on a lengthy fast, consuming only water for several days. If you are like me, your mind and your heart become consumed with thoughts about food and as time goes by, you dream about the food that you are going to eat once the fast is over. Your mind even begins to put together new recipes, and you begin to wonder why you weren’t so adventurous before? You nearly promise yourself that you’re going to try every type of food that exists as soon as you have a chance!
What is happening at this point? You have become so hungry that food consumes your whole thought life! In the same way, we need to become so desperate for God that He consumes our thoughts, captivates our hearts, and inspires our lives!
When we seek Him like this, the more we desire to be with him. The more we desire to be with him, the more passionately we seek Him in His Word, the more we seek Him through his word, the more we desire to pray and spend time with Him, so on and so forth.
Pursuing God passionately also looks like gazing and meditating on Jesus in the Gospels. You learn how he loves, and how he thinks. What he likes, and doesn’t like. It looks like worshipping him, and adoring him until he becomes our only source of life!
Guess what happens when we do this?
2 Corinthians 3:18 begins to take place, and we transform into His image! 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “But we all with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even by the spirit of the Lord.”
Guess what happens when the transformation takes place?
We begin to feel the way Jesus feels and think the way He thinks. Soon we begin to walk the way He walks, and talk the way He talks! His dreams become our dreams, and our heart beats to the same rhythm that His heart beats!
When this happens, my friends, God is able to transform lives and nations through us by his mighty power and love!
My brothers and sisters! He so desires to be our closest friend and he wants to walk with us. Even as he did with Adam in the evening. As he did with Enoch, and Abraham, and Moses, and many others that God called “His friends.”
All that being said: On that last day, that great day of the feast in John chapter 7:37, “Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst let him come to me and drink!”
Will you come and drink from the hand of the one who died for you? Will you challenge yourselves to live an even deeper life of worship to our King and seek him with all your being?
